A significant increase in the number of rare species of animals has been recorded in Azerbaijan

“During the monitoring conducted a few days ago in the territory of the Zagatala State Nature Reserve, a significant increase in the number of Caucasian deer (noble deer), one of the rare species of the region, was observed.

This is the most successful result of recent years for the species included in the “Red Book”.

“Report” Arzu Babayeva, an official of the Biological Diversity Protection Service, said this.

“In the Zagatala State Nature Reserve, which is considered to be the largest area of the Caucasian deer included in the “Red Book” of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as a result of visual observations conducted for this season, it was recorded that about 1000 deer individuals live there,” he added.

A.Babayeva noted that during the monitoring, along with Caucasian deer, the stability of the populations of other rare species – the Dagestan tour, the brown bear and the skunk, and the dynamics of the increase in the number of individuals were observed, which is the result of the high level of protection work in the reserve area.
